This is one of the first plein air paintings I did with the Northern Tier plein air group which I started last year.
There’s a pretty neat outlook area near Antrim, PA with a Grand Canyon type view. I met there with the group in Summer but upon arrival, the overwhelmingly green lush hills and valley just couldn’t interest me-too much of the same color and I didn’t see a way to make the landscape more interesting while maintaining integrity. I think I’d probably like this scene better in Fall. Then the boulders on the parking area caught my eye. These were placed just close enough to the road -so a passer-by told me- to keep big trucks from parking there. I like the different shapes and colors, shadows and light and had a lot of fun using the bristle brushes and refraining from adding too much detail.
